WhatsApp will start showing more ads in the app

They said they would not do it, but they have since changed their mind.

Messaging app WhatsApp will start showing ads.

The Meta-owned platform has started the global rollout and says the messages will not appear in your private chats, or your content will not be used to send your ends.

Instead they will use your country, city and language to serve ads. If your WhatsApp and Facebook are linked, then they will use that for personal ads.

You will get them in the Updates section.

Businesses with channels will also be able to promote ads to get new followers.

Add to that, channels will be able to charge for exclusive content, with WhatsApp grabbing a 10% commission.

Ads will also be served as status updates.

Yes, it is going to get clunky. And fully monetisable.
