This weekend served one of the craziest matches, with Scorpions Cricket Club scoring a stark staring, raving made 822-4 in a 2025-26 Masvingo 50 Over First League.

After winning the toss, they scored an unbelievable 222 runs in the first powerplay.

By the time the first wicket fell on 21.3 overs, Wilfred Matende, who departed for 203 runs off just 39 balls – including six sixes and eight fours – Scorpions were on 414.

The carnage did not stop because the next partnership yielded 150 runs in 11 overs. Vincent Moyo went for a relatively modest 78.

Takunda Madembo was on 139 in 71 at the time.

When Praise Makaa was bowled for two, Madembo had crossed the 200-mark. He retired out on 302 off 143, including seven sixes and FIFTY fours.

With six overs left in the match, there was still enough time for Gabriel Jaya to score an unbeaten 110 in 49 balls.

A mare.

In response, Methane Lions were done on 28-7, to lose by 794 runs, with Southern Rocks GM Emmanuel Dube’s son, Emmanuel Dube Jr taking four wickets.

Methane Lions were in the National Premier League (NPL) last season, if you remember. They probably won’t make it this season.

It is not the first time Scorpions have gone berserk. Their runs when batting first are 565-2 against Young Tigers, 396-2 against Poly Panthers and 266 on the opening day encounter with Knights.

There were other massive sores this weekend. Chiredzi put 563-3 on the board against Young Tigers. Knights also had a 418-5 a few weeks ago, facing Methane Lions.
