

The Zimbabwe government says no hantavirus cases recorded in the country.
The Ministry of Health and Child Care assured the nation that no cases of hantavirus have been detected in the country, with health surveillance systems on high alert.
Three Zimbabwean health workers exposed to suspected cases have been placed under quarantine as a precautionary measure.
The three medical workers, who were on Ascension Island were classified as ‘currently health’.
“While they are currently healthy, the MoHCC taking every scientific precaution to ensure their well-being and yours,” the Ministry said.
Further, the ministry through Port Health Services (PHS), has undertaken a risk assessment and has already established the underlisted precautionary measures:
- The travellers will undergo screening and assessment by PHS upon arrival at RGMIA.
- The individuals will remain under active monitoring for symptoms associated with hantavirus infection during the recommended observation period of 45 days.
- Appropriate infection prevention and control measures will be implemented throughout the transfer and monitoring process.
- Arrangements are being made for the travellers to remain together in a designated private isolation facility during the quarantine period.
The World Health Organisation has moved to allay fears of hantavirus being an epidemic or pandemic.
