Barclays Zimbabwe rubbishes WhatsApp hoax message

Barclays Zimbabwe has distanced itself from a WhatsApp message doing the rounds claiming the bank is about to exit Zimbabwe.

The message tells its recipients who have accounts with the bank to withdraw all cash before 22 March 2016 at which it says the institution closes its doors for good.

Barclays would like to re-assure valued customers and the general public at large, that the misleading WhatsApp messages currently circulating concerning our alleged closure on the 22nd of March 2016 are grossly inaccurate and false.

Barclays is open for business and has no intention whatsoever to close its doors. We remain committed to the growth of our company.

This hoax comes on the back of recent news that Barclays PLC was beginning the work divesting its interests in African operations leading some to think these operations on the continent would be shut down which is wide off the mark.

People need to behave, really. not what we need right now.
