The Zimbabwe Rugby Union announces that, following consultation with all stakeholders and with the endorsement  of the Ministry of Sport and Recreation, the final round on Sunday 1st May of World Rugby U20 Trophy matches will be held at the Harare Sports Club and not at the National Stadium. The success of the first two rounds of matches and Wednesday’s last group matches at Harare Sports Club, as well as the logistical challenges of moving the tournament to another venue in such a short period of time resulted in this decision.

Zimbabwe Rugby Union, along with stakeholders in the Local Organising Committee who are tasked with hosting this tournament on behalf of World Rugby, are grateful for the support and assistance from the Zimbabwe corporate world and the Ministry of Sport and Recreation in ensuring that the delivery at venues and facilities meets the exacting standards set by World Rugby.

Zimbabwe Rugby are particularly grateful to Zimbabwe Cricket who have worked closely with them to ensure that the infrastructure required to stage such a tournament is provided.

Colleen de Jong, Zimbabwe Rugby Union Chief Executive remarked, “We are grateful to Zimbabwe Cricket for agreeing to a partnership between our two sporting associations and for their support. Without this we would not have been able to meet the requirements for hosting a tournament such as this and their co-operation in the spirit of national pride has been invaluable.  Harare Sports Club and Harare Sports Club Rugby have also been integral to the preparations and presentation of this Tournament”.

World  Trophy Tournament Director Simon Kibble said World Rugby appreciated and supported the ZRU’s decision. “We understand the reasons for this decision and fully support the Zimbabwe Rugby Union. Harare Sports Club has been a great venue across the first two rounds and with even more spectators expected for tomorrows last group game and Sunday’s final itself, the warm atmosphere is set to continue”.

All the best to Zimbabwe
