Zimbabwe put on an impressive performance in beating Liberia 3-0 at the National Sports Stadium in a Group G Africa Cup of Nations encounter on Sunday.
Here are three things we picked up from the match.
Knowledge Musona is Zimbabwe’s most valuable player
The new captain took to his role like a duck on water as he was involved in everything good going forward for Zimbabwe. He stretched the Liberia back line to and fro making brilliant runs to provide options for the attacking forwards. Musona was simply top quality, showing himself head an shoulders above the rest. On top of that you could see how the rest of the team cozying up to him as the new leader.

Norman Mapeza wants Zimbabwe to play
You had the feeling under that under the tutelage of Kalisto Pasuwa, Zimbabwe focused more on stopping the other team from playing. In this iteration of the national team Mapeza wants the team playing exciting football, expressing themselves and taking more changes. It will not be as easy against the much more worldly Democratic Congo and Congo when the qualifiers resume but you can see what he is planning to achieve.
Forgotten players still have something to offer
Under the former regime players like Thabani Kamusoko and Ovidy Karuru were not seen anywhere close to the team. Even the exciting Kuda Mahachi was not as much a focus until towards the end of that technical team’s term. Mapeza has brought players who will execute the way he wants them to and provide the type of performance that his club side have defined as the Pure Platinum Play.
