Zimbabwe’s senior men’s rugby side made a strong start to the World Cup Qualifiers tournament after a big win over hosts Madgascar.
The match finished 57-22 putting Zimbabwe in a good position before they meet favourites Namibia who lost 29-22 to Kenya earlier in the day.
While the Sables were dominant but they will have to work on their defence as they conceded unnecessary points. After rushing to a 22-0 lead in the first the Sables gave Madagascar a sniff when they allowed them to crawl to within 10 points at half time.
They restricted Madagascar to just 10 points in the second half while Zimbabwe registered 35 points in a powerful performance, the highlight of which was the try at the end which a try was scored from 30+ metre rolling maul. 7s captain Jacques Leitao scored a hat-trick of tries.
Other than the Namibia match in Wednesday, Zimbabwe also play Kenya on Saturday. If they win the group they will qualify for the first Rugby World Cup since 1991.
