The Zimbabwe Football Association has stated its position on the ongoing impasse between it and the Premier Soccer League over the relation-promotion situation.
In a communique sent out and signed by the association’s president Philip Chiyangwa, it stated that it wants two teams relegated and four promoted into the country’s top flight league. That will bring a financially struggling league’s size fro 16 to 18 teams. It did not say whether this would be the permanent size of the league going for ward or if there would be four relegated and two promoted next season to bring the teams back to a manageable 16 teams.
The PSL released a statement a few weeks back saying there would be no moving forward until its case at the Court of Arbitration for Sport was settled.
One of its grievances was that there was noone working representing the organisation as chairperson officially since the suspension of Peter Dube.
Zifa has responded by appointing Kenny Mubaiwa as acting chairperson. Mubaiwa if you remember lost out to the now-suspended Peter Dube in PSL elections earlier this year.
It will be the second time that a PSL chairperson has been forced out by the current ZIFA board in the space of its year in office with Twine Phiri having been removed before Dube.
Along with Dube, Lewis Uriri, Ndumiso Gumede, Philani Ncube and Jerry Sibanda remain suspended.
