Fewer Teams To Be Relegated From PSL

The volatile Zifa Annual General Meeting and Extraordinary General Meeting made a resolution to reduce the number of teams to be relegated from the Castle Premier Soccer League.

On its website Zifa said it was agreed:

That the relegation and promotion format from, and into the Premier Soccer League will change with effect from the end of the 2016 season. Two teams shall be relegated from the premiership while the two teams to be promoted into the elite league shall be selected through playoffs.

At the end of the current season (2015), four teams shall be promoted as has been the norm and four teams from the four regional leagues will gain promotion.

While this seems like it make sense, now you have four regions fighting for two slots. A total of 64 teams will now fight each other via playoffs. OK let’s think about this a bit more. Now what happens if the team is relegated from one region and promoted teams are not from their region? A bit of thinking needed there.

It is in the same meeting that it was resolved that an EGM would be held on 3 October 2015 with the agenda to ‘revoke the mandate’ of the Zifa board.
