Indonesia is to execute 14 drug convicts this weekend, the country’s attorney general has said.
A ‘Zimbabwean’ has been listed is among four foreigners to be executed. The other non-Indonesian nationals are from Nigeria, Pakistan and India.
The man has been identified as Frederick Luttar. According to The Guardian, he was was arrested in a raid in 2003. Plastics bags stuffed with heroine were found and he was sentenced to death months later. Judicial review and please for clemency have been rejected.
Other sources however say he is a Nigerian who entered Indonesia with a fake Zimbabwean passport and his date of arrest is listed as 2006 which would mean it was a case of identity theft/fraud.
The executions come in the wake of widespread condemnation from the United Nations and the European Union.
President Joko Widodo has received many pleas for clemency some from governments of the foreign nationals but these have fallen on deaf ears.
The executions are to take place latest by Sunday. Other reports say say the executions could happen as early as tonight.
They will be done by firing squad.
