Rubine Hurrican Carter, an American boxer who was sent to jail for crimes he did not commit has died at the age of 76.
Carter was sentenced to prison for murder in a case that became a symbol for racial injustice in the United States.
Carter spent 19 years in jail for three murders he did not convict in 1966 and was found guilty after a retrial in 1976.
His ordeal became the subject of Bob Dylan’s song Hurricane in in the 70s and earned Denzel Washington an Oscar nomination for his potrayal of Carter in a movie.
