EgyptAir Flight MS804: Debris found and what we know so far

The world has been gripped by the  EgyptAir flight MS804 which disappeared on Thursday with the debris found on Friday.

Here is what we know so far:

  • Debris from the plane crash has been found in the Mediterranean ocean. The confirmation was made by EgyptAir. it also tweeted condolences to the families
  • There is no cause for the crash revealed yet. Authorities say the is likely terrorism rather than technical failure. No group has claimed responsibility.
  • The plane went missing at 2.45am on Thursday morning.
  • The plane made “sudden swerves” before dropping off radar over the Mediterranean, Greek defence minister Panos Kammenosaid.The plane made a 90-degree turn left, and then dropped from 37,000 feet to 15,000 feet before swerving 360 degrees right.(The Guardian)
  • The plane had 56 passengers and 10 crew (30 Egyptians, 15 French, two Iraqis, and one person each from the UK, Belgium, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Chad, Portugal, Algeria and Canada)
  • The plane was on its fifth trip of the day and disappeared at 37,000 feet.
  • EgyptAir says the captain – named as Mohamed Said Shoukair –has 6,275 flying hours, including 2,101 on the A320; the copilot,Mohamed Mamdouh Ahmed, has 2,766. The plane was manufactured in 2003.
  • The search was supported by the French, Greek, US and British.
