Zimbabwe’s Princess of Mbira Hope Masike brings her show to Book Cafe this coming Friday fresh from a month-long jaunt in the United States.
The gig will feature Munya Mataruse as an opening act a special appearance from Hope’s drummer Blessing Chimanga. Blessing was with Hope in the US as part of the OneBeat fellowship programme.
On the inclusion of the two she said:
We decided to share the stage with Munya Mataruse because we are great fans of his music and he is phenomenal on stage. Blessing Chimanga was an obvious choice because he know sthe music so well having played with my band for long. He is also just a sight to see on stage. You know when they speak of David’s mother shouting at him for dancing too much, I always envision Blessing. He is that crazy on stage. So we all thought, why not bring these two on our stage and give our fans a night to remember.
We all know about seemed like a long-standing allergy to the guitar in her music. Well that seems to have gone out the window.
Renowned guitarist Adrian Mparutsa will be part of her main set with her band which includes Elisha Herema, new drummer young Malvern Cheremari, percussionist and professional dancer, Blessed ‘Mahobho’ Rukweza and seasoned marimba player Courage Chikowo.
After that Hope is off again, this time to Asia to visit China and Malaysia to search for musical possibilities.
So make date, Friday 28, November from 8pm.
