Book Cafe Closes Indefinitely

The Book Cafe which reopened on Samora Machel Avenue in March 2012 has had to shut down for what it calls refurbishment, evaluation and upgrading of systems.

They just released this statement on Facebook:

THE BOOK CAFÉ at 139 S.Machel Ave, Harare, will be temporarily closed with immediate effect, to complete the second phase of its programme of refurbishment, evaluation, and upgrading of systems. Thanks to all audiences and artists for their support in the first phase since March 2012. We will be back with a bang – watch this space for details!

This means that all events that had been scheduled have been cancelled including one which was meant to host a Japanese group. Two shows had to be cancelled this – Mic Inity on Wednesday and the Thursday night show – as authorities closed them down.

Given the sudden nature of the closure it would seem the authorities have forced the Book Cafe’s hand.

We hope they will be back soon.
