The decision had been made in principle on the weekend and was now voted on by the full council. The two sides have become very competitive, particularly Afghanistan who have posted wins in recent times against Zimbabwe and the West Indies.
Former Zimbabwe captain Brendan Taylor extended his congratulations to the two nations via his Twitter account.
Congrats to @Irelandcricket and @ACBofficials on becoming full members of the @ICC ,well deserved ?

It is good news for Zimbabwe which has struggled to attract fellow full member teams to play it home or away.
