Caps United lost again to Libya’s Al Ahly Tripoli 2-4 in Tunisia in a CAF Champions League.
The Green Machine went into the second half leading 2-1 thanks to goals from Ronald Pfumbidzai and Ronald Chitiyo.
Even then it was a match in which the Libyan side could have been well out of sight. Sure Caps United did have a great spell in the last 8 minutes of the second half but it was the profligacy of the hosts that kept them in the game.
In the second half, Kepe Kepe never left dressing room.
Tactical indiscipline meant often, the right side, where Caps United found themselves most vulnerable and often Hardlife Zvirekwi being pulled into the middle to cut out attacks.
Caps United, in the matches they have played have lacked shape and while easy on the eye a few of the times, they were often found lacking in that cleverness and nuance that is needed in continental football, something also seen in the national sides.
Perhaps it is down to the quality of teams they face in a domestic league that does not punish poor tactical play.
With two matchdays to go, qualification is still a mathematical possibility but it will require all two of the three teams ahead of them to lose both matches to make it to the next round.
While it will be a disappointment for Caps United and Zimbabwe, it will all be down to experience this time around.
