Mthembu wins 2017 Comrades Marathon; Zimbabwean comes second

South Africa’s Bongmusa Mthembu is the men 2017 Comrades Marathon winner.

Mthembu crossed the finished line shortly before 11 am, completing the 89-kilometre race from Durban to Pietermaritzburg in a time of 5:35:33.

Mthembu was followed by Zimbabwe’s Hatiwande Nyamande who finished second in 5:38:46. Gift Kelehe, also from South Africa came third (5:41.48).

Mthembu won the race in 2014 and came second in 2016.

The other Zimbabwean in the top 10 Prodigal Khumalo came eighth.

The first woman across the finish line, Charne Bosman, is also South African.
