Caps United fall at Zamalek

Caps United’s CAF African Champions League campaign got off to a false start as they fell to Egyptian giants Zamalek 2-0 in a Group B tie in Cairo.

The Zimbabwe champions who have been unimpressive in the new season had keeper Edmore Sibanda to thank for their going into the break with the game scoreless as the Egyptians dominated.

Much of the same continued until Abdalla’s close range headed went in for the five time champions took the lead.

Zamalek then sat back and when Caps did get into spaces they failed to cross effectively or when presented a chance were blunt.

Stanley Ohawuchi then came on and scored the second to put the tie beyond doubt and even though the Green Machine did put pressure, they could do nothing else.

In both goals Edmore Sibanda was sluggish and could have done better to prevent the goals but on the balance of play the hosts deserved their win.

In the other match in the same group, USM Alger beat Al Ahly Tripoli 3-0.
