Acclaimed alternative hip hop artist Tehn Diamond has said that his tour has taken a lot out of him.
Dubbed Tehn Outta Tehn, the tour was supported by Ammara Brown, Simba Tagz and Thaiwanda Thai and it ran through ten cities Of Zimbabwe starting off at Harare’s Stars Night Club on 18 February, it ended 25 March at Tanza Night Club in Chitungwiza.
In an interview the No Stress rapper opened up;
The tour was incredible and extremely grueling, like it just took a lot out of me physically, emotionally and financially.It was a lot but very much worth it.I learnt a lot.What we’ve done shows that it is possible for any genre to grow in the country. It’s not just a biggest tour that a hip hop artist has ever done,it’s the biggest national tour that any artist in any genre has ever done in the country.
On working with Ammara Brown, Simba Tagz and Thaiwanda Thai, Tehn said:
It’s been dope.Near the end we were now getting on each other’s nerves c’os every weekend we were together.Long drives, it’s been awesome.We got to learn about each other’s fan bases and the industry.
Among other things the rapper also highlighted that hip hop is not yet a pop genre in Zimbabwe. However, he is convinced that there is a chance for survival and growth because people are craving for something different.
There’s a definitely a hunger out there for something different.People are,I wouldn’t say bored, but they’re kind of tired of the same old thing coming around,the same artists everytime and same style.If you look at how we packaged our tour it was a mixed bag.It was nice to expose people to something different, myself I’m hip hop ,Thaiwanda got more of a trap feel.Tagz is afrobeat and Ammara is the queen of afropop.That was different.
Responding to the allegations of mistreating some nembers of the tour, he has this to say;
I’m grateful for everybody who was involved on the tour, no matter how small or big their contributions were. He (Marcus Mafia),is his own person,he’s supposed to feel however he would like. What I would say is every single year someone mistakes my name for a ladder.I’m used to it, it comes with the territory.I can’t change the way people feel, if they’ve decided to feel mistreated and disgruntled afterwards that is that.I really can’t do anything about it, for me I’m pleased the tour is done.I’m focused on what need to happen next.”
Tehn also shared that his album is doing great and that he will be dropping new videos this year. However, he said that his next album will be coming in three years, but there will be new music in the course.
