Kenya could pull out of 2016 Olympics over Zika fears

The Kenyan Olympic Committee has said it could pull out of the upcoming 2016 edition due to the ongoing Zika virus.

It did say it would make such a decision if the disease does become an epidemic.

And the murmurs coming out of the World Health Organisation suggest that the expectation will be an ‘explosion’ in the spreading of the virus which primarily spreads via mosquitoes although rare cases of infection by sexual contact have been reported.

Infections have generally been in South America.

Zimbabwe’s Olympic Committee has so far itself not held a position on the matter which if in line with that of Kenya would be a huge blow for the history-making Mighty Warriors team.

Mind you, with ebola wrecking havoc, CAF did not postpone the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Olympics run from 5  to 21 August 2016.
