Sungura Legend Daiton Somanje Dies

Zimbabwean sungura legend Daiton Somanje has died.

The singer who fronted the iconic Pengaudzoke  of the Tsaona fame was 50.

He passed away at Parirenyatwa Hospital on Tuesday where he was being treated for meningitis.

Mourners are gathered at 391 Shingai Crescent in Dzivaresekwa 3 while in Marondera they are at 3704 Museve Road in Rusike.

Daiton’s brother Josphat who was with him in Pengaudzoke said the burial would be in Marondera.

According to Sounds of Sungura it was Josphat who set up the band in 1985 even though Daiton was the central figure. They would record  Chinhu Chevaridzi, their first of many smash hit singles. It was the 2002 hit Tsaona which gave them legend status.

A sad day for Zimbabwean music. We will miss you.
