Information, media and broadcasting services deputy minister Supa Mandiwanzira says he feels let down by artists for not standing up for the government policy on local content quotas.
Mandiwanzira was speaking at the launch of Cynthia Mare’s album last night where he was the guest of honour.
He said:
I am battling on many occassions to convince everyone and those care to listen that it is important and crucial that promote our own in the first instance. That we have 75% on local radio stations and local TV stations to support 0ur own industry. And sometimes I feel let down by the artists because I have never seen them stand up and say, we want it.
The artists in the audience voiced disagreement but he insisted that they do not stand up and demand 75% local content on the radio,
We can identify to a large extent with Mandiwanzira’s words because we have often been in the middle of debates in which some artists seemed to be against 75% local content for some reason or the other. If not, they never seem to come out in public demanding their share of the cake.
What do you think? Is his assessment fair?
