The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe has moved to dismiss rumours of a fuel price increase after an ‘article’ went viral on social media.
In a statement the central bank said:
Fake Fuel Prices
The article circulating on social media on the fuel price hikes of $5.50 and $5.15 for petrol and diesel respectively, is fake news. For starters the alleged meeting at the RBZ with fuel suppliers never took place.
The social media article is aimed at causing panic buying of fuel and should be treated with the contempt it deserves.
QUICK SIDEBAR: The RBZ really needs to work on its reputation. After saying a few weeks ago that there was no currency coming, well there was one(it is in the basket of currencies isn’t it). So while there may well and truly be no price increase people will take advantage of the fact that people are not really keen to believe them and would rather default to their worst when dealing with the RBZ.
