This he said at a press conference to announce that Zimbabwe had been accorded rights to hold the Africa region qualifier set for 5 to 13 May 2019 in Harare.

The venues are Harare Sports Club, Old Hararians and Takashinga.

Nine teams including Zimbabwe will fight for two slots to make it to the global qualifier. The others are Nigeria, Namibia, Sierra Leone, Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Mozambique.

Captain Mary-Ann Musonda revealed that part of the preparations, the main one will be a triangular in April in Uganda for which Makoni said ZC is footing the bill as part of preparations. Other than that, the women will play boy’s age group sides every weekend.

Zimbabwe getting the chance to host the tournament comes on the back of the successful staging of the men’s ODI World Cup Qualifier in March 2018 which some see as an endorsement of the country’s capacity to stage critical ICC events.
