Zim PSL to host two tournaments before next season

The Zimbabwe Premier League will most likely fill in the space between the end of the past season to the next one with tournament chairman Farai Jere has said.

This is as the local league works towards aligning its calendar with the new CAF one which will run from August to May.

According to Sunday News, there will be a knockout tournament and then a mini league format before teams take a break between May and August for the new start.

Jere was quoted as saying:

One of them is going to be a knock-out and the other one we are going to put the Premier Soccer League teams into three groups, they compete home and away, then we take the top two, and the third best runner-up around May, that’s when we hope to finish that bridging programme.

While the agreement with sponsors and Zifa are in place what remains is alignment of the PSL constitution as well Division One and Two leagues.

Already champions FC Platinum have started taking part in the CAF Champions League new calendar and made it to the second round. They will need those matches to retain match fitness.
