What Goalshooter Joice Takaidza had to say after the Gems World Cup win

Goalshooter Joice Takaidza spoke to the media after her player for the match performance against Sri Lanka in Zimbabwe’s Vitality Netball World Cup debut in Liverpool on Friday.

The Australia-based 35 year old scored 59 of Zimbabwe’s and this from 62 shots for a 95% conversion rate in Zimbabwe 79-49 win.

On what it was like being on the court at a World Cup

It is a dream come true. I think I’ve played netball for the past 23 years but we’ve never reached this far. But to be here is just a dream come true for everyone in my team. And even the committee as a team, Zimbabwe as a nation, it is just something that is so good and exciting and I think everyone is watching from back home.

On how far she thinks the team can go in the tournament

I think we are going to get to the final stage. The trophy is ours this year

On the strong support from the fans

We didn’t know we have so much fans for Zimbabwe. It was so exciting, so lovely. Thank you guys. We really appreciate. Thank you so much.

On her children back in Australia watching

My daughter, I think you are watching what mommy is doing. I know you play the same position as mom plays. Keep it up. Keep watching mom. You’ll be good like me.
