Luckless Zimbabwe lose test against Sri Lanka

Zimbabwe toiled for long periods but a combination of dropped sharp chances, unlucky combinations and missed opportunities meant they lost the only test against Sri Lanka in Colombo.

Skipper Graeme Cremer bowled for long periods to end up with four wickets for his efforts.

Nilshuran Dickwella whose 81 included bags of luck and a not-too convincing TV umpire decision and Asela Gunaratne (80) dug their heels in to make sure the hosts to take the match home for the hosts.

Zimbabwe however will not want to look at the showreel of missed chances, with Regis Chakabva missing stumpings and catches. Graeme Cremerhad a shy at the stumps and missed.

Many of the chances were a bit sharp but in a match this close, they should have been taken.

And so Sri Lanka were able to chase down the fifth highest fourth innings in test match as well the highest in the sub-continent.

They ended up 391-6 chasing 388.

Zimbabwe did a lot of good things in the test but it was just not enough to prevent Dinesh Chandimal
