Ervine, Chari centuries power Tuskers to Pro50 Championship final

Craig Ervine made it back to back hundreds in a 200-run second wicket partnership with Brian Chari to power Tuskers into the final of the Pro50 Championship at Takashinga Sports Club on Sunday.

Tuskers lost Cunningham Ncube in their chase but Chari showed why Zimbabwe’s selectors stay interested in him in that troubled top order spot with a 104 which had 14 fours and two sixes. On the other end Craig Ervine followed a personal best of 168 not out with 111*.

Chari was out late on to Natsai M’shangwe but that was with 20 runs to win and the Tuskers completed an eight wicket victory with five and half overs to spare. 236/2 is what it they put on the board.

Earlier, Ernest wicket returned his best figures of 6/56 to restrict Moutaineers to 235/9. Timycen Maruma (66) and Foster Mutizwa (73) were the mainstay of the innings but they lost wickets at the wrong periods. The last three wickets at the death fell for just three runs.

The two sides meet again on Tuesday in what is a dead rubber with Eagles having tied up first spot as well as a slot in the final already.
