Lying is the process of stealing someone’s reality.

It fundamentally means that whatever you are led to believe shapes what feels tangible to you, and subsequently informs every decision you make going forward.

So how do you know your partner is a big liar?

We have four tell-tale signs

1. They provide way too much detail and information

The truth is often specific and gets to the point. Now if the person seems to keep inserting unnecessary detail, then chances are they are lying. Excessive detail is a sign of someone not only trying to convince you, but themselves. They have to create this world, which is not real and for it to make sense, it has to become tangible to them.

2. The story is too simple

A bit different from the above is the lie by omission. The answer devolves itself from any explanation. It is take it or leave it and leaves a lot unsaid so it cannot be subject to objection.

3. They remove themselves form the story

They use a lot of hypothetical scenarios. We like to call it the If I had. In this instance, they say If I had done it… then they paint circumstances and reasons which mitigate against them doing it. It is almost as if they are acting as their own lawyer in a prosecution.

4. Unusual voice change

Whether one speaks faster, or their tone goes up (as is the case with most men), there is a worry there. Now this is interesting because a study of two demographics showed that the Chinese tended to have a higher tone when they are lying and a lower one for Hispanics. Among the different tribes in Zimbabwe, it will be down to your ear. Some go lower resonance when threatened and others higher.

5. They once told you they were a ‘good liar’ and you may have even seen them do it to others

Believe the hype

That is not all of them and feel free to send us your thoughts below, or via the social media platforms listed
