Zim Election Updates: Zuma, Biti, Kasukuwere, Coltart Speak

It was a dramatic Thursday for Zimbabweans after elections in in the country.

President Jacob Zuma of South Africa, the Sadc fascilitator on Zimbabwe said he would not pass judgement on the elections of the country until counting was done and results confirmed. Asked about Morgan Tsvangirai’s claims that the vote had been manipulated, he said the MDC-T leader will have to produce evidence to prove his claims.

Meanwhile MDC-T secretary general Tendai Biti said that he had ‘survived’ and retained his seat but added quickly that he would only work in a government headed by Tsvangirai.

The Welshman Ncube led MDC’s David Coltart conceded defeat but added that “Zimbabwe has been subjected to electoral fraud on a massive scale.”

Zanu-Pf’s Saviour Kasukuwere said that he claims that elections were rigged were ‘rubbish’ adding that the party had lost some heavyweights. He called curtains on MDC-T’s time in the light saying,  “It’s a landslide, a total annihilation of the MDC. Their project has failed.”

Earlier on a SADC Electoral Commissions Forum said that elections in Zimbabwe were credible following on African Union head of delegation Olesugon Obasanjo’s proclamation of the same on Wednesday. He added fair and free to the statement.

Results have been trickling in and it looks like it might be a big one for Zanu-Pf and its president Robert Mugabe.
