VIDEO: AU Chair Robert Mugabe’s speech at summit

President Robert Mugabe has given his speech at the 26th ordinary session of the assembly of the African Union in Addis Ababa and it has gotten a lot of social media talking after some fighting talk.

In it the AU Chair spoke about:

  • UN reform (the bosses in the UN that we have as permanent members. We have asked and asked and asked. Reform security council [prolonged applause]) adding (we are artificial members of it [UN] and others are real members of it) and (if the UN is to survive we must be equal members of it)
  • Fight against colonialism (we shall fight our own identity and integrity as Africans)
  • African independence
  • The Palestinian conflict (When shall we stop listening to the president of PLO and rather to the listen to the president of the state of Palestine? he said)
  • Conflict on the continent (Burundi, Somalia, South Sudan remain a concern)
  • African migration from the content
  • Rule (told Europe to ‘shut up’ about his ‘long’rule)
  • Western interference & regime change (They are there in Africa, if not physically through NGOs [applause], through spies, through pretenders who act like they want to help us, through armed groups on some of our territories)
  • Applauded the holding of elections in African countries saying the member states had ‘come of age’ when it came to democracy.

And then the standard standing ovation at the end.
