Mangoma Suspension Unconstitutional – Biti

It just got interesting at Harvest House after MDC-T secretary general Tendai Biti said that the suspension of Elton Mangoma was unconstitutional.

Biti, speaking at a press conference in Harare on Friday after the suspension of Mangoma said he would seek the reversal of the decision.

According to journalist Nelson Bwanya (@nelsonbanya) via his Twitter account, Biti said the decision was made without a two-thirds majority National Council in place and and that no vote had taken place. Biti also said that Mangoma was not heard as an individual and that an atmosphere of intimidation characterised the meeting.

Biti said he was taking the decision to protect the movement as its secretary-general. He now wants another meeting with all delegates present and give Mangoma a right to appear before it.

Biti has been widely regarded by many as having an eye on Tsvangirai’s position and that the work by Mangoma in trying to have leadership renewal was done with his blessing. Some will see this as a move to protect Mangoma who has been standing in the cross-hairs of Tsvangirai and his supporters culminating in a violent incident which targeted Mangoma and Biti a few weeks ago.

This has still got legs, we see.
