HSBC Freezes Ordinary Zimbabweans’ Bank Accounts Because Of Sanctions

After the West had gone out of its way to claim that sanctions only targeted a select few, multinational bank HSBC has according to NewsDay shut down accounts belong to ordinary Zimbabweans.

Zimbabwean nationals and expatriates who are account holders with the bank suddenly could not transact and they say it is because of the sanctions on the country.

One woman said that she had held an account with the bank since the 90s and was suddenly unable to transact. All Zimbabweans in Zimbabwe are apparently affected, black or white.

The West has always said before that everyone else in Zimbabwe was exempt from the effect of sanctions which they say are meant to punish the ruling Zanu-Pf party for supposed violations of something or the other.

It seems as if they were pulling the other one then, if this is what HSBC has decided to do. Mind you Zimbabweans went for the longest while simply unable to access payment gateways such as Paypal because of the sanctions.

We wonder they are going to block next, assuming that this flagrant escalation of sanctions reason is a new devil.

We wonder if there are any other Zimbabweans out there who have been affected.  It is possible that it is a fraud alert if the people in question were making transactions from places different from where they said they stayed. However the people in question claim that the bank said the reason for accounts being frozen or shut down was because of sanctions.

Should be interesting. Would curious to get the HSBC response on this.
