EU To Relax Sanctions On Zimbabwe But Not Mugabe

The European Union will relax sanctions on Zimbabwe but not on President Robert Mugabe and his 111 other individuals.

The Times says that ministers from the EU will lift a ten-year ban on development aid to the country. Assistance had been going through NGOs and not through government.

However the effect will not be immediate. It will be another two years before that happens given the fact that next budgetary cycle for the EU starts in 2014.

They will also talk about conditional and limited suspension of asset freeze.

In essence it seems as if they just  want Mugabe to go. They will not have a chat about it. They just want him gone and they don’t care about much really.

What do they really lose from dropping sanctions altogether? This is personal.
