Emmerson Mnangagwa wins 2018 presidential election, MDC Alliance rejects result

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission has declared Zanu PF’s Emmerson Mnangagwa as the winner of the presidential poll in the 2018.

Mnangagwa garnered 2,460,463 (50.8%) to beat MDC Alliance’s Nelson Chamisa who picked up 2,147,436 or 44.3%.

After nine of the provinces had been announced Zec took a break for just over an hour.  Just before Zec came back as it was being set up, MDC Alliance chairperson Morgen Komichi with Chamisa’s spokesperson Nkululeko Sibanda appeared and stated that they would not accept the result, declaring it as ‘fake’.

After they were taken off by Zec officials and a police officer, Chairperson of the Commission, Judge Priscilla Makanyara Chigumba declared Mnangagwa the winner.
