Deputy Minister Challenges ZBC’s Right To Demand Fees In Court

Fungai Jessie Majome, the Woman Affairs, Gender and Community Development deputy minister and a senior official in the MDC-T wants the Constitutional Court to revoke ZBC’s right to demand radio TV licenses.

This is because of what she says is biased programming on the state broadcaster.

Majome was last year arrested for failing to produce a television licence and charged for contravening Section 356 (1) (a) of the Criminal Procedure and Evidence Act.

She says her reason for not producing a license was not in contempt of the law but a conscientious objection because of the programming being biased towards ZANU-pf.

Many Zimbabweans are not keen on paying licenses because of the content that it provides. Especially when you think that TV licenses are at $50 a year.
