“Set your ovaries free” – Magufuli wants population growth

Tanzania president John Magufuli wants a population growth in his country and has encouraged his people to breed more.

Speaking at a gathering in his home town of Chato Maguguli was quoted as saying

When you have a big population you build the economy. That’s why China’s economy is so huge.
I know that those who like to block ovaries will complain about my remarks. Set your ovaries free, let them block theirs

Magufuli also cited India and Nigeria as examples of places boosted by huge populations at their disposal.

Tanzania has registered six to seven percent economic growth since Magufuli swept into power in 2015. But he believes that would be even faster if the country had more people.

The country of about 58 million grows at about 2.5 percent a year in population size.

In 2014, then Registrar-General Mr Tobaiwa Mudede urged Zimbabweans to stop using contraceptives religiously, saying the contraceptives are a ploy by powerful nations to retard population growth in Africa and thereby weaken the nation.

He said Nigeria had a population of more than 130 million and its economy was booming while countries like Zimbabwe, which are preoccupied with contraceptives, have subdued economies.
