Seke man gets nine years for trying to kill his wife over money

A 39-year-old man from Besa village in Seke has been sentenced to jail for trying to kill his wife.

The man appeared before the Chitungwiza Magistrates’ Court, facing attempted murder charges, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is reporting.

The court heard that on the 10th of July 2024 at around 0500 hours, the accused person had a misunderstanding with his wife over money, leading to a physical altercation.

The accused person took a small axe from the wardrobe and struck the complainant five times on the head.

The two kept wrestling until the neighbours arrived on the scene. The accused person ran away, giving rise to a chase.

Citizens effected an arrest after catching him.

The complainant sustained some deep cuts on her head.

The accused person was sentenced to nine years in prison.

The court suspended one year for five years. He will serve eight years effectively.
