Nyanga man gets community service, suspended sentence for beating up his wife

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) reports that a 37-year-old man from Nyangani Park in Nyanga was recently sentenced for domestic violence by the Nyanga Magistrates’ Court.

On March 8, 2024, the man assaulted his 30-year-old wife following an argument about her visiting her parents and returning later than agreed upon. She apologised but he proceeeded to assault her.

The NPA reports that the man slapped his wife several times, kicked her back, and punched her head. The assault only stopped when neighbours intervened after hearing the woman’s screams.

The NPA details that the man received a 6-month sentence with a 4-month suspension on condition of completing 140 hours of community service.

The remaining two months of the sentence were also suspended.
