Nyanga man convicted of criminal insult and threats

A Nyanga man has been convicted of making threats to kill another person, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is reporting.

Shine Chiwaya (61) appeared before the Nyanga Magistrates’ Court, facing threats and criminal insult charges.

It was the state’s case that on the 18th of November 2023, at around 1600hrs hours, at Manyuchi’s Chisero mining site in Nyanga, the complainant was at his plant.

Chiwaya, who has some mining interests in the Chisero mining site, insulted the complainant.

On the second count, Chiwaya threatened to kill the complainant, saying he would kill him with a gun. The complainant felt frightened.

The court handed Chiawaya a three-month custodial sentence on the first count, wholly suspended on condition that he perform 105 hours of community service.

On count two, he was ordered to pay USD150 or spend 20 days imprisonment in default of payment.
