Mwonzora pulls out of race

MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora has pulled out of the Presidential race, on the eve of the elections set for 23 August 2023.

He said the reason is because of what he terms election mismanagement by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC).

Among the issues he raised were:

  • His belief that ZEC made it impossible for MDC-T to pay fees for election, resulting in mass disqualification and disenranchisement
  • The delimitation exercise
  • The MDC-T case not being attended to urgently in courts
  • Alleged bias against his party by ZEC in court cases
  • The blocking of money for election agent funding from donors by Zanu-Pf
  • Postal votes Statutory Instrument after declaration of elections

Mwonzora alleges that ZEC has decided who will contest for elections.

“We are boycotting this farce. We care boycotting this sham. We are boycotting this presidential election,” Mwonzora said.

He says he has informed ZEC and that he expects the body to act accordingly.

Candidates for Council and MP will contest.
