A man was slapped with a suspended sentence and community service for abusing his wife, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is saying.

The 29-year-old, from Spring Village in Nyanga, was brought before the Beitbridge Magistrates’ Court facing charges of physical abuse.

The state alleged that on the 14th of October 2024, at around 2000 hours, the complainant (23) was at home when her husband returned home drunk. While standing by the door smoking a cigarette, he asked why a lady was in their bedroom. The wife told him that she had paid them a visit, which did not go down well with the accused person.

He slapped the complainant once on her left cheek before punching her on the face as well as all over the body using clenched fists.

The complainant sustained injuries as a result of the assault.

The accused person was sentenced to four months imprisonment, wholly suspended on condition that he performs 140 hours of community service.
