KUWADZANA 7 ACCIDENT: Death toll rises to seven

The death toll has risen to seven in he horror accident at Kuwadzana 7 in Harare.

Police said in a statement, “Reference is made to the ZRP press statement on a fatal road traffic accident which occurred at the junction of Harare-Bulawayo Road and First Street, Kuwadzana 7 turn off on 31/10/24 at around 0510 hours. The death toll has risen to seven”

The details of the accident as shared are as follows.

Earlier, The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the accident at the traffic-controlled intersection of First Street and Bulawayo Road in Harare.

The accident happened when a Toyota Hiace kombi, carrying an undetermined number of passengers, collided with an oncoming fuel tanker, which was empty at the time. The kombi turned right onto Bulawayo Road in front of the tanker. The bodies of the deceased were taken to Sally Mugabe Hospital mortuary for post-mortem, while the injured were admitted to the same hospital. The identities of the five deceased have yet to be confirmed by their next of kin.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident on 30th October 2024 at around 3:30 p.m., two people were killed and five others were injured when a Toyota Land Cruiser veered off the road and overturned, landing on its wheels at the 225-kilometre mark along Harare–Masvingo Road. The deceased were taken to Mvuma Hospital mortuary for post-mortem, and four of the injured were admitted to the same hospital. One of the injured victims was transferred to a hospital in Harare for further medical care.
