Former Milton High School deputy headmaster and current Principal at Zimbabwe Academy of Music Michael Bullivant has been honoured by Queen Elizabeth II for her New Year’s Honour.
The Bulawayo-based Bullivant has been conferred with the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his services in music, education and Zimbabwe/United Kingdom relations.
Born on 15 June, 1946 in England in a county named Lincolnshire, Mr Bullivant learnt at King Edward VI Grammar School in Spilsby. He moved to the then Rhodesia in 1975 and started teaching History at Milton High School.
Others on the honour roll include knighthoods for directors Sam Mendes and Steve McQueen. McQueen is the first black film-maker to win the best picture Oscar, for 2013’s 12 Years a Slave.
Damehoods are given to Baroness Floella Benjamin, novelist Rose Tremain and Grease star Olivia Newton-John.
Sir Elton John, meanwhile, is made a Companion of Honour for services to music and charity.
It is the recognition given to Bullivant which we will be toasting to when the clock strikes midnight.
