Albert Tom (21) was arraigned before the Guruve Magistrates’ Court on allegations of murder, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is reporting.

The case

It is the State’s case that Tom confronted the deceased on the 13th of July 2024 at 0100 hours at Chirwa Mine, Mapeta Hills, Guruve, accusing him of stealing his USD33.

Tom allegedly struck the deceased using a steel rod twice on the forehead and several times all over the body.

He then left the deceased lying on the ground and returned to join his colleagues in the shafts.

Upon returning, Tom realised that his mate had died.

That is when he dragged the body and dumped it 40 metres away from their base in a thick bush.

The matter was remanded to the 30th of July 2024.
