Zimbabwe’s principals in the Global Political Agreement, President Robert Mugabe, Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai and Deputy Prime Minister Arthur Mutambara have declared the end of the constitution-making process.
In a press conference at State House today Mugabe was quoted as saying:
We are glad to say that we have now come to the conclusion of the exercise and all parties are agreed.
Tsvangirai said:
This concludes a long journey that we have traveled in trying to arrive at this national position.
Mutambara said there had been political will and compromise to finalise constitution.
MDC leader Professor Welshman Ncube continued to be excluded from the principals’ meeting.
This means that we might still be having a referendum in March and elections in July perhaps.
