Two of Zimbabwe’s most illustrious sportsmen, Richard and Kennedy Tsimba have been inducted into the International Rugby Board hall of fame.
Richard who gets his induction posthumously, having died in 2000, was the first black player to represent Zimbabwe. ‘The Black Diamond’ as he was called, played 23 times for his country including two W0rld Cups.
Kennedy was the first black captain of the Sables, won 6 caps for Zimbabwe between 1997 and 1998 before he moved to South Africa. There he represented first, the Blue Bulls and then the Cheetahs in super rugby. He set a new record in 2002 for the most points in a Currie Cup season by a Cheetah(228) and holds the record for the fastest player in first class history to reach 1,000 points. He won Currie Cup player of the year in 2002 and 2008.
We thank the Tsimba family for the services of their gallant sons to the game and congratulate them on this award.
