Nyanga woman gets 6 months for scalding victim with boiling water

A Nyanga woman has been jailed for pouring hot water on another person, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is reporting.

Tinotenda Kutsanza (24) of Chigura Village under Chief Saunyama, Nyanga, appeared before the Nyanga Magistrates’ Court, facing assault charges.

The state’s case was that on the 2nd of August 2023, the accused person and the complainant were seated in Kutsanza’s kitchen when the accused person poured boiling water on the complainant.

The complainant tried to run away, but Kutsanza caught up with her and assaulted her with clenched fists and booted feet all over the body.

An informant intervened and restrained the accused person from further assaulting the complainant. The complainant sustained burns on the right hand and breast.

The reason for the assault was not made available.

Kutsanza was sentenced to 9 months imprisonment, of which three were suspended for five years.

She will serve an effective six months in prison.
