Zimbabwe name Cosafa Cup squad

Zimbabwe had coach Jairos Tapera has named his squad for the upcoming Cosafa Senior Men’s Challenge.

Only part of the current team out in South Africa for 2026 Fifa World Cup Qualifiers have been retained as Zimbabwe go for a largely local-based player squad.

The only foreign-based players are Marley Tavaziva (Brentord), Daniel Msendami (Jwaneng Galaxy), Joel Phuthi (Sheffield Wednesday), and Macauley Bonne (clubless).

To some people’s surprise, top goalscorer Lynoth Chikuhwa (Highlanders) and the second-placed Never Rauzhi (Bulawayo Chiefs) have been ignored again.

Here is the squad.

GOALKEEPERS

DEFENDERS
Shane Maroodza (Huddersfield), Andrew Mbeba (Highlanders), Emmanuel Jalai (Dynamos), Thubelihle Jubani (Manica Diamonds), Isheanesu Mauchi (Simba Bhora), Tawanda Chisi (Manica Diamonds).

MIDFIELDERS
Daniel Msendami (Jwaneng Galaxy), Joel Phuthi (Sheffield Wednesday), Juan Mutudza (FC Platinum), Kingsley Mureremba (Caps United), Mtokozisi Msebe (Simba Bhora), Tatenda Tavengwa (Venda Football Academy), Richard Hachiro (Ngezi Platinum), Panashe Mutimbanyoka (FC Platinum), Tinotenda Meke (Green Fuel).

FORWARDS
