Neville Mutsvangwa’s charges revealed, remanded in custody

The full charges against Neville Mutsvangwa have been revealed.

He appeared before the courts in Harare on Friday and these are the charges he is facing:

  • Count 1 – Contravening section 5(1)(a)(ii) if the Exchange Control Act Chapter : as read with Section 4 of the Exchange Control Regulations SI 109 of 1996 as amended by Section 2 of the Statutory Instrument 122A and Section 3 and 4(2) if SI 245 of 2018 – Dealing in Currency
  • Count 2 – Contravening Section 14 (1) of the Bank use Promotion and Suppression of Money Laundering Act Chapter 24:24 – Unlawful Trading in Cash
  • Count 3 – Money laundering as defined in section 8(1) of the Money Laundering and Proceeds of Crime Act – Money Laundering

The state says it has documentary evidence of transactions from seized gadgets (computers, money and cellphones). They also have a register of transactions with particulars of witnesses and their signatures appended when they collected funds from Mutsvangwa’s office. They also got 10 VISA cards from FNB SA, 3 VISA from Zambia, VISA from Mozambique, 2 VISA from UBA and 13 local credit/debit bank cards they say he used in committing of the alleged crimes.

Also facing these allegations are Elias Majachani and Simbarashe Tichangana.

He also is charged separately with possession of a Starlink kit.

The 44-year-old is remanded in custody until Monday for the continuation of bail hearing.

Neville is the son of Zanu-PF power couple, Christopher and Monica Mutsvangwa.
